Frozen happiness

The last two weeks it has been quite cold, freezing up to -15 Celsius. Although biking in the cold is anything but fun, it did make Amsterdam even prettier than it already is. Below you’ll find proof…

Last week I also managed to get on the canals, just like thousands of others did. It was great to see the city from a different point of view, and to see so many people enjoy it. Just have a look this video and you’ll get a feeling of how great the atmosphere was. I’m so happy I live her.

The picture below is from a city called Leiden. Originally posted on Facebook (over 40,000 likes and was shared almost 12.000 times in a few days), it was taken up by numerous international media.

Something old, something new

I love Instagram and have been an avid user since 2010. Each weekend they do a ‘weekend hashtag project’ and this weekend it was #somethingoldsomethingnew. Below you’ll find my entry, a combination of my 1920′s Remington type writer and my brother’s iPad (with the type writer app, yes it exists).

Something old, something new (iPad and Remington)The first I have in my living room and really need to get it fixed, the latter I’m borrowing while my brother is traveling for five months. Love both!

Making True Grit

Last weekend I’ve seen True Grit at a lovely movie theater in Amsterdam. Really liked the atmosphere of the raw wild west, which wasn’t the typical Hollywood glamour version of it. Jeff Bridges,who plays one of the main characters Rooster Cogburn, has been taking some wonderful pictures on set. Above is my favourite, check all the others here: Making True Grit. Via

I’m always proud of the fact that World Press Photo is a Dutch institute located in Amsterdam. Today they have announced the World Press Photo 2010 winners, you can view the amazing, winning images in the gallery here. The World Press Photo of The Year is of an 18 year old Afghan girl who was disfigured as punishment, shot by photographer Jodi Bieber. This shot comes out of the category ‘Portraits’ but easily could have come from the category ‘Spot News’, which impacted me the most.

Life on Sundays – blog

Sparebots like you’ve never seen them before

As a student, I had a side job making different types of microprocessor controlled meters (working with capacitors, diodes, resistors, led, wire and solder). When I came across the Flickr group Sparebots, I was immediately reminded of my little job back in the days. This is because the bots are made of exactly the material I used to work with!

Even if you have no clue what I have been talking about until now, the following pictures will make you smile anyway.

Summer in Amsterdam

I’ve been neglecting this blog for way too long, due to a million things I won’t bore you with. When finally logging in, I came across this draft. Tomorrow it will turn autumn officially, so seeing this pictures make me long back to those wonderful, sunny days…
